Sports in Qatar have taken big strides in recent years as reflected in the impressive performance of various Qatari teams that participated in regional and international contests. Qatar succeeded in hosting and organizing several tournaments which made it an important venue for international sporting events

Sports activities receive considerable support both from the government and the public. The hosting of the Asian Games in 2006 will be the culmination of Qatar’s sports achievements.
